Shooting Straight


John Ashcroft would sooner pardon terrorists than pave the way for gun safety legislation. But without meaning to, and for all the wrong reasons, the attorney general has just handed gun safety advocates a golden opportunity to take away the National Rifle Association's best weapon against us. All we have to do is agree with Ashcroft's Justice Department that the Second Amendment gives law-abiding Americans a limited constitutional right to own guns.

Bush Blasts Congress for Failing to Rob Paul to Pay Paul

A February 28 headline in The New York Times initially raised alarms that the Bush Administration was about to execute one of its patented 180 degree turns. " White House Concedes That Counterterror Budget Is Meager ," it said. Could it be true? After a year and a half of hyping homeland security while fighting efforts in Congress to do something about it, was the Administration going to suddenly begin demanding money for first responders and other urgent needs, just as it suddenly called for a Homeland Security Department in 2002 after opposing it for months?
