Social Security celebrated its 70th anniversary on August 14th and the El Dorado County Democratic Central Committee will celebrate the world’s most successful social insurance program with a forum on Social Security at Town Hall in Placerville on Friday, September 23, 2005 at 7:00 pm.

Speakers will include Peter J. D’Anna, who retired as a district manager for Social Security in 1997 and Helen Russ, President, AARP California. Mr. D’Anna lectures on Social Security and Medicare at University of Southern California and California State University Sacramento, where he is an adjunct member of the faculty. He is Area Representative for The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare.

This forum will examine Social Security in depth from its beginnings in 1935 during the great depression and will focus on its possible funding problems, the readily available and nearly pain-free solutions as well as the Bush Administration’s privatization and other plans.

All persons who are interested in saving Social Security for themselves, their children and their grandchildren should plan on attending.
