The contest was open to all junior and senior students from all public high schools in El Dorado County. The authors of the winning essays give us hope for our future with their answers as to how we can have a sustainable environment for our planet.
Winners were judged on the following criteria, which are listed in order of importance:
- Originality—research is encouraged, but students should present their own ideas.
- Persuasiveness and consistency of the argument and evidence.
- Clarity and logic of the presentation.
- Practicality of the proposals.
- Proper grammar, word choice, spelling and citations (crediting sources).
